Cynthia started her career as a model in New York. The model signed a five-year contract by Wihelmina Models. She then became the face of Essence Magazine. Cynthia's Essence cover, which was the highest-selling magazine in time, was also Susan Taylor's favorite. Cynthia secured her second Essence cover shortly thereafter and set up the scene for a lengthy career. She then moved towards Paris and Milan where she was seen walking the runways at Paris Fashion Week and Milan Fashion Week. After having lived abroad for nearly one an entire year Cynthia returned to New York City and participated highly sought-after for to launch campaigns in Maybelline, Oil of Olay and Macy's. Elle's, Glamour's, Essence's and Vanity Fair magazine editorials soon followed. Cynthia's career was boosted by her being chosen before Naomi Campbell for the co-starring part in "Without You I'm Not Anything" opposite Sandra Bernhadt.
